An Embarrassing Procedure

To say that I was humiliated would be an understatement. Who comes up with these medical procedures for pets anyway? Whoever it is should have to endure the same kind of treatment that I did. So before I rant any more, let me tell you what happened.

Doc told me the night before that I would have to go see my Vet Dr. B in the morning for some medical testing. No big deal, I have been going there for years and like and trust the staff at my veterinarians office. She also informed me I could not have anything to eat until after my procedure. I didn’t like hearing that, but ok. So the next day we left for our 11am appointment.

When we got to the office we went into the exam room just like usual. Everything was normal until one of the vet techs came to take me to another room, where they put me on an exam table and flipped me on my back. At this point I was starting to get concerned. When they pulled out the electric razor and started shaving my belly clear down to my man parts, I about fainted. Later, Dr. B told Doc “His eyes got really big when we started shaving him.” Well don’t you think anyone would be concerned if that happened to them?

After shaving me they ran this wand type thing over my belly. Dr. B said they were checking my liver and spleen to make sure I didn’t have any tumors, given I am an older dog. The good news is that I didn’t have any. When they took me back to the waiting room, Doc got the good news about how healthy I am. I was still a bit shaken from the whole thing and once I got home and had some kibble, I got in Doc’s bed where I felt safe and fell right to sleep. I sure hope I never have to go through that kind of procedure again.

I was back at work the next day, walking around with my shaved belly, and guess what? Everyone was so concerned, that I got extra love and hugs. Maybe there is an upside to what I went through.

  1. What a brave puppy I didn’t hear any complaints. Just concerned. I am happy to hear. Grover is in such good shape.

  2. I just LOVE to read these posts. I love to see Grover when I am in for a Wednesday Stress Management Group!!
