There is nothing better than a nice surprise to make you feel special. And that is exactly how I felt last Saturday when one of my human friends dropped by Doc’s house just to see me.
It’s always exciting when I hear the doorbell ring. I start barking in case Doc can’t hear the loud Bing Bong and then I run toward the door. You just never know who may be on the other side. Sometimes it’s door to door sales people usually trying to sell Doc exterminator services for bugs and such. They must think our neighborhood is overrun with pests as often as they stop by. The ones that get pushy are no match for Doc and I chuckle when she lets them know she is no push over. But on this particular day it was someone we were excited to see.
When the door opened and I saw it was my good friend Mary on the other side, I was so happy. When I noticed she had a paper bag in her hand that smelled like something good to eat, I really was elated. She had missed my birthday, and wanted to bring me a present. Of course Doc put the bag away while we visited as not to be rude. It is hard for a dog to be polite sometimes, especially when there is food involved. We had a nice visit, I thanked her for the gift and as son as she left, I bothered Doc until she gave me my goodie bag. I have to say, when I saw what she brought me, they were some of the most beautiful dog treats I had ever seen. They were yummy too!
At the old age of 12, I have lived long enough to be thankful for the people in my life that care about me. For Mary, to take the time to pick out a belated birthday gift for me and bring it to the house, touched my little doggy heart and I am so grateful.
Happy Birthday Grover! Make Doc take you to the Ocean Club.
